Empowering and uplifting the fearful with gentle dental check-ups … to support your best smile and healthiest self
Routine dental check-ups are one of the best things you can do for your smile and your “whole self.” Consistent check-ups at the Gentle Dentistry of Newnan PC office include a thorough exam by our talented and kind dentist, Dr. Ria C. Sahara. Our valued patients from across greater Coweta County and west-central Georgia also benefit from professional cleanings by our highly skilled dental hygienists. These team members gently clean the teeth to remove “nasties” like bacteria, surface stains, and stubborn plaque.
Moreover, as a truly gentle office, we set ourselves apart from other dentists’ practices in metro Atlanta and beyond. We take an unhurried approach to partnering with each individual. Many of our patients have not seen a dentist in years due to “dentophobia” or extreme dental fear. In turn, we have developed exceptional know-how in minimizing or avoiding the “triggers” that keep people away from the professional care they need to be their best and healthiest selves. Often, all it takes is really sitting down with a person, answering their questions, providing clear and understandable information on procedures and services, and addressing specific concerns. As needed, patients can also benefit from our safe and relaxing “helpers,” including sedative Medications.
What to expect during your visit
Generally, we recommend that all patients, regardless of current health status, visit us at least once every six months for a check-up that includes a comprehensive exam and professional standard cleaning. Now, if it has been a while since your last check-up, there may be active inflammation or other conditions to resolve. No problem! Instead of the standard cleaning, we may recommend a “deep clean” to resolve active gum disease. We will then see you for follow-up visits to ensure the treatment works as intended. Many patients will need no further care to restore their gum health beyond this service, known as “scaling and root planing.”
Dr. Sahara may also want to check in with you more frequently should you have risk factors for any one of the following conditions:
• Dental decay
• Periodontal (gum) disease
• Oral/pharyngeal cancer
Those risk factors range from challenges to oral hygiene or nutrition at home to the presence of other illnesses such as diabetes. Conditions like diabetes can make you more vulnerable to oral infections and can interfere with healing. Of course, if you smoke or use other products that contain tobacco or nicotine, we are here to help! We will want to minimize this considerable risk factor for oral cancer for the good of your teeth, gums, and body.
At regular intervals (and as needed), Dr. Sahara will also perform oral cancer screenings to look for lumps, bumps, and other abnormalities. She may also order further testing. We use advanced, low-radiation digital dental x-rays to detect what cannot be spotted with the eyes or by touch alone.
Lastly, these check-ups are great opportunities to discuss ways to improve your health! We’re happy to provide you with samples of new types of toothpaste, or rinses to try. We can demonstrate flossing techniques to clean hard-to-reach or tight spaces.
